For those that don’t know me personally – Halloween is my favorite holiday. When I was a kid, it was tradition for the kids on our block to coordinate our costumes. One year it was the Wizard of Oz and the next year we all dressed as fruits and vegetables! (Wish I had time to find pictures!)
These days I still dress up for Halloween…
As you can see, I still keep with a theme!
These two beautiful girls sure keep me busy these days but I tried to carve out some writing time for Susanna Hill’s annual Halloweensie Contest.
The rules were that you had to write a 100 word Halloween story that used the words trick, cobweb, and poison. Well here is what I came up with…
Sidenote: I normally don’t write in rhyme but I have been trying to figure it out and I thought this would be good practice. So please go easy on me!
The invite arrived on Halloween night.
I dressed in my costume – spooky and white.
Into the forest, an owl shrieked “hello”,
A goblin played tricks, werewolf eyes aglow.
I flew past cobwebs, and through the garden gate.
Would anyone notice if a ghost was late?
The wise old witch gave out green poison treats,
And cackled, “Everyone, please take your seats!”
Fingers on sandwiches, Sir. Pumpkin’s pies,
Tea served by mummies wearing black bow ties.
When the sun came up, and the tea was all gone,
“Best Monster Bash ever!” I said with a yawn.
