Yeah… It’s been awhile

What can I say? It’s been months since I posted about my writing life on here but hey… that’s life and everyone is SOOO busy these days! I’m not sure if anyone is reading this anyway…

Between my daughter starting school and weekly dance classes – not to mention the wedding, (Yay! I’m married and he is a fantastic man!) I really didn’t have much writing time. But now that things have settled down I have managed to get back into my normal writing routine. FINALLY! I even managed to read a book this month. Which is why I’m writing this post.

I want to tell you about an AMAZING book I read.

MY LADY JANE by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.

This story takes place during the time of King Edward VI. After King Edward died Lady Jane Dudley was proclaimed queen of England. But sadly her reign was short lived. She ruled for nine days before Edward’s half-sister Mary invaded the castle and took over the throne. Lady Jane and her husband were beheaded a short time later. (But of course that’s not the sad tale the authors recount in this book!)

Instead the authors tell a different (and hysterical) story that involves characters shape-shifting into animals, romance, and comedy.

I love history books and the fact that they decided to re-write the history and add modern-day comedy = JACKPOT! I could not put this book down. Don’t believe me? Here’s a snippet:

“No horse jokes,” he said.
“My lord, I apologize for the horse joke. If you put down the book—unharmed!—-I will give you a carrot.”
He brandished the book at her.”Was that a horse joke?”
“Was that a horse joke?”
Come on! How could you not laugh at that! But in my opinion the best line of the whole book and the one I couldn’t stop laughing at could easily be missed by most:

(Spoiler alert – Lady Jane had just become queen.)

“There were also a handful of invitations to preside over state events, visit various nobles’ country homes, and attend something called the Red Wedding. Jane checked the “will not attend” box without giving this last invitation a second thought. As if she wanted to go to any more wedding.”

Now if you are a Game of Thrones fan you had to of caught that….THE RED WEDDING! It felt like an inside joke between that author and the reader (well… those of us who enjoy GOT). Ugh! I am in love with this book and it has soared straight to the top of my favorites list.

So if you enjoy reading about history sprinkled with some fantasy, or would just like to laugh your butt off, go buy the book and get to reading! (and laughing).
