I’m so happy to share my adventures in the writing world.
I started writing in sixth grade, and just recently found the story I wrote for my sixth grade Christmas Story contest. Reading it now from an authors point of view, it’s not that great of a story and it’s a “so-and-so saves Christmas” story that has been written a million times in the book industry world. At the time, the judges must of liked the story enough to award me with first prize and a free pop! I can’t thank them enough for jump-starting my passion.
My writing expanded into the poetry world in high school; a place where hearts are repeatedly broken and creative writing is abundant (even if it never escapes your diary).
It wasn’t until several years after high school that my passion for writing took a major turn. When my daughter turned three she entered the phase of being scared of monsters in her room. Because at this stage she enjoyed reading a lot of books, I decided to write my own story that was tailored to her situation. This is when my first book Charley Meets a Monster was born. I had so much fun creating the book for her (via Createspace) and I realized how much I missed creative writing.
In the past year I have joined the SCBWI, Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Writing Challenge, and several critique groups to try and perfect my writing craft. I am looking forward to the future and hoping to get my foot in the door of the traditional publishing world.
